070 - Cat Tree

Brushpen on Sketchbook Paper

Last night I had dinner with my friend Mike and Allison.  They gave me a gift card to PetSmart and I'm planning on turning it into a cat tree for my kitties.  I have no idea where the volcano came from.

069 - Apple Blossom and Mutzu!

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

This is me jumping on the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic bandwagon!  Apple Blossom was a nickname given to me by my friend Dale.  Since I grew up in the Little Apple, Southington, CT, I really liked it.  So, I created a pony name Apple Blossom, and then her boyfriend, Mutzu, just happened to join in.  Mutzu's are my favorite apples and they are often HUGE!  I'm toying with making him a Sumo Wrestler of a pony, but I need to get more fluent in the new pony style before I can modify it correctly.

068 - Visit from the Past

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

A person from my past came out of the wood work wanting a place in my life again.  Apparently The Talking Heads had something to say about that.

067 - Namaste

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

I'm certain this was inspired by my friend Li.

066 - Crazy Bird

Rollerball Pen on Sketchbook paper

Another very long day, and the second doodle that day.  I really like this character and want to explore him more.

065 - Oh No!!!

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

I have a confession to make.  This was actually done on the morning of day 66!  It's a direct response to realizing I forgot to do my doodle the day before!

064 - Home Again

Sharpie Liquid Graphite Pen on Sketchbook paper

Liquid erasable graphite would be great if it actually wrote in one stroke.  Still missing my kitties and reminding myself there's a reason for everything.

063 - Hottest Day Yet

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

Day 63 was the hottest day this summer.  It was hotter in Connecticut than it was in Savannah, GA.

062 - Talking in Circles

Ball Point Pen on Sketchbook Paper

I did my midterm paper on Raina Telgemeier and her book, Smile.  This paper really helped me define what I hope to accomplish with sequential art, but it also uncovered a lot of doubt.  Also, lyrics are from Once in a Lifetime  by The Talking Heads.

061 - Time

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

I wish I was posting these as I drew them because I have no idea what inspired this.   Obviously A Hazy Shade of Winter by Simon and Garfunkel...  Oh!  I remember!   I have no time and I've become a crazy, disorganized wreck of a person because of it. :)

060 - Home is Where Ever I Am With You

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

I got Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros stuck in my head.  I've been a little homesick for my furry little family.  That's Pixel and Zuko hiding in the mobile house there.  It doesn't matter where that house goes, as long as their in it, that's where home is.  Yes, I know, I'm a crazy cat lady.

059 - My Babies

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

It took me a few days to recover from the 24 Hour Comic challenge.  All day Monday I was just really missing my kitties.

058 - 24 Hour Comic Hangover

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

This doodle was the last thing between me and sleep after being awake for about 36 hours.

057 - The Littlest Gryphon Concept Art

Ball Point Pen on Sketchbook Paper

This one was doing the night of the 24 Hour Comic challenge.  I think it was after I finished the script and layouts and right before I went to the inks.  I needed to flesh out my gryphon characters a little more first.

056 - Sleep When You're Dead

055 - Stop Cheating!

053 - Almost Normal

Red Ball Point Pen on Sketchbook Paper

I've been wanting to get my webcomic, Almost Normal, up and running again.  I have an image in my head of Despair, drunk, singing Sea Shanties.  Unfortunately, doodling while watching The Queen gave too much dignity to my drawing.  As soon as my characters started speaking though, that all went away.  Oh!  And I got to watch my kitties hunt geckos through the window via Skype!  That's where that last corner came from. And the crazy mask was inspired by a documentary on the first kings of England.

052 - Nature Goddess Meets Pixel and Zuko

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

I don't know if I'll ever find a design for Pixel and Zuko that does them justice, but I'm SUPER HAPPY with the design of the Nature Goddess for the comic I'm doing this summer!  I spent all day doing character designs for the book, and when the open studio hours arrived, I found myself doodling kittens and my new character.  I love her!  She's influenced by plants, deer, Disney and Greek art. :)

051 - Missing My Kitties

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

I was really missing my kitties, Pixel and Zuko, when I drew this. They're down in Georgia with Martin for the summer while I'm in Connecticut.  The text is influenced by a conversation I had with Rich Stevens of Diesel Sweeties at ConnectiCon.  He's making a living doing what he loves and he was encouraging me to do the same. :)

050- Half Way There!

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

A portion of this image was influenced by Steve Ersinghaus's Poem, The Day I turned into a Snake with Hair, which was inspired by my Day 32 Doodle, which was inspired by my friend Danni's Wyrmlings!

049 - ConnectiCon!

Pencil on Sketchbook Paper

I spent the day at ConnectiCon sitting at the artist alley table for the studio.  All the cool Dr. Who and steampunk costumes influenced this doodle.  I also worked on some character designs for the flying deer and nature goddess who will be in my comic.   I have no idea where the school eating monster came from!

048 - Value

BIG Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

Another night where I just wanted to sleep but hadn't done my doodle yet.  This was following my discussion question deadline for my online class.  The question was about Penny Dreadful's and their status as sensationalist, disrespectful garbage for kids and the uneducated, and if it was a good or bad thing that they were the beginning of comics.  My doodle sums up my response.

047 - No time!

BIG brush pen on Sketchbook Paper

So busy!  I forgot to do my doodle and all I wanted to do was sleep, so I filled the page as quickly as possible.

046 - Stress!

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

I didn't meet my first deadline for the studio I'm interning at.  I spent my day off dreading going in the next day.  I did bad things to my nails.

045 - Green Pups

Green Tria Maker on Sketchbook Paper

4th of July, did this doodle at Mom's house, hence Hogan and Ginger, her Jack Russell Terriors, taking up most of the page.  The green marker didn't scan well.

044 - 3rd of July

Ball Point Pen on Sketchbook Paper

This was the day of my family's 4th of July gathering.  While the fireworks and bald eagle are self explanatory, I'll let you guess at the rest. :)

043 - Sea Princess

Copic .5 Multiliner on Sketchbook Paper with Brush Pen

All caught up!  I promise not to let my daily doodles go this long without being posted again.  For one thing, it was a PitA to scan and post over a week's worth of images at one time.  For another, I want to get back on track with things.

I like that random characters seem to be coming out of my doodles now.  This Sea Princess is someone I could see writing a story about.  I am in story mode very often these days.

My brain is very tired and adjusting to my internship schedule.  Also, I am sad to be sitting at home listening to the pop of fireworks and not being part of it.  Tomorrow is family day, but I miss the old days when my friends and I would have big BBQ parties and fireworks displays of our own. :)

042 - Pushing Through!

2B Yellow Pencil on Sketchbook Paper

Again, I didn't want to doodle, I just wanted to go to bed.  But I doodled anyway.  I've been down on myself lately, hence the messages in this image.

041 - What Makes a Zombie???

Pencil on Sketchbook Paper

At this point, I'm not sure if what I'm doing could be called doodling anymore.  While I'm still not planning out what I'm drawing, the images are seeming more and more cohesive, or coherent.  My brain has been so tired after working in the studio, it's incapable of thinking abstractly, if that makes any sense at all.

I've been working on a series of illustrations for a Zombie project.  My Zombies don't look very dead though.  I was trying to puzzle out what makes a Zombie look Zombie like.  Then I wondered if I was in fact a Zombie myself.  Then I decided no, I just really wanted a good stiff drink, though tequila is usually my liquor of choice.

Day 40 - Back to Work

Pencil on Sketchbook Paper

I went back to work on my internship on day 40.  My brain was so tired when I got home, and I didn't want to do anymore drawing.  But I did.  Here's a doodle.

039 - The King's Speech

Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

I spent most of Tuesday resting and recuperating.  I did this doodle while watching The King's Speech. The man in the image is pulled from both Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush.  I don't want to give away any spoilers, but there are no cockatiels in the film.  I have no idea where this one came from or why it's in this doodle.

038 - LAME

Dying Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

After a 10 hour drive back home from Pittsburgh, I was exhausted!  I didn't want to do my daily doodle, and then the pen I choose was empty of ink.  The whole thing was just LAME.

037 - Making a Come Back!

Fancy Japanese Pen on Sketch Book Paper

Day 37, I ran into my friend Ian Jay from school in the hang out room after the convention closed for the year.  He had this fancy pen he got in Japan that made me draw like he does!  At this point at the con I was thoroughly exhausted and my brain was over run with giant plush creatures hanging around everywhere!  It took 4 days after the convention for me to stop dreaming that I was forever stuck in that dealer's room!

036 - Rock Bottom

Pencil on Sketchbook Paper

Day 36 was me reaching rock bottom of my Daily Doodles while at the convention.  I was very busy taking commissions, and the doodles that did make it onto the page were thumbnails of the images I was trying to work out.

That night I had planned on filling in all the gaps in the page, but a party found me, literally found me, and dragged me all over Pittsburgh.  There was a generous amount of Tequila and the rest of the page was forgotten.  So sad.

035 - What the....

Pencil and Brush Pen on Sketchbook Paper

On Day 35 I discovered that Barnes and Noble has stuck a security tag right to my piece of paper!  How rude!  The rest was inspired by people and scenery of the dealer's room.

034 - The Double Tree Flies Away!

Double Tree Ballpoint pen on Sketchbook paper

I stayed at the Double Tree hotel for the con.  I totally forgot to do my doodle until right before bed.  Since I didn't actually sleep the night before, the two days had kind of blended in together.

033 - The Lameness Begins

Ball Point Pen on Sketchbook paper

Last weekend I attended a convention.  It really threw a wrench in my Daily Doodle plans.  This image is the beginning of what I think is a low point of my work in this project.
